Two sunny days in a row???
Nearly unbelievable.
But it is going to rain tomorrow.
So I have today to mow my lawn, and I was all ready to get started on the painting project. Oh well, guess I have to tackle what is going to grow first. Good thing the room I am planning on painting will stay the same size!
this is my best friend today
I started already but I have gotten so fat and out of shape over the winter that I needed to stop and take a break before I have a heart attack. Okay, so I was fat before the winter. But I have put on probably close to 30 pounds since the fall, and I really am out of shape.

I was always very strong and tough, even with the 100 extra pounds I was carrying around. I used to be able to mow my nearly 1 acre lawn in 3 sections, with two breaks. It took about 4 hours with the old push mower. Now I have a self propelled walk-behind mower and it looks like it is still going to take me much longer with lots more breaks.
backyard
the “side yard” along the northeastern side of house,
facing the road from the back yard
I realized that I have posted so many pictures of the house and back yard, I never put any on here of the front. The view from the house is quite lovely and peaceful (most of the time, but Bernie wants to put speed bumps in the road in front of our house)
Our house is set pretty far back on the lot, so there really is a relatively small back yard, and a huge front yard. This was because when it was built, it was along the front of a larger parcel that was my grandparents farm, so essentially, there was a very large back yard, woods, fields, even a small orchard. But now that my grandparents property was sold to a developer, we just have a small back yard, with another big house in back, and the detention basin and drainage ditch along one side. Lovely.
The following photos give you a panoramic view of the front and side yard. I took these after the last time the lawn was mowed (the last time the sun was out) I was sitting on the front porch steps and just started to my left and took shots in increments from left to right all the way around.
Quite a bit to mow, huh?
Oh well, I guess it will either get me back in shape or kill me.

you have a beautiful place! i especially like that old dodge pickup with the camper top…. is it for sale?
as a matter of fact it is for sale. anybody want it?
how about the white 1990 VW Westfalia camper, it’s for sale too.
Looks like you live on a small plantation. What a lovely area and soooo much space! Beautiful and I bet the “kids” love the space to run and play
Unfortunately the kids only have a very small fenced yard off the patio in back. They can’t be trusted off the leash because like many toy dogs, they have no concept of coming back when called, or staying out of the road. They think it is all a game of catch me if you can…
But fencing in more of the back yard is on my wish list.
Yipes! Yer a candidate for a riding mower. It’s beautiful though.
what a great property….i’m jealous. i just have 1/3 acre but i feel your pain. it takes me about an hour to mow.
drink lots of water and go slow! happy mowin!
Whoot! It does look gorgeous!… Who needs to go on holiday when you’ve got that around the house! (Not to worry, the Amsterdam-pics WILL come eventually)…
Now about the woodchopping – afraid I’ll have to be realistic about it – did about 15 square feet of turning mud today, and I’ve got BLISTERS!… Okay, it was hot and sweaty weather, but that doesn’t change the fact that I have baby-hands… Holding brushes doesn’t support callous-forming.
Also played a bit of guitar today (has been a while), and noted that the callouses on my fingertips also have disappeared. Ouch!…
Oh, just as a side-thought…
I always think that your photo has a certain Madame MicMac-ishness about it…
You know, from that Disney “Arthur”-movie…
It’s not a negative thing though, since the witch has become (atleast in the Dutch Disney comics) one of the good guys…
Hmmm… Bernie as Merlin???
I bet you have a ‘tractor’ on your wish-list.
Sounds like you’ll be getting my rain. It rained all day here today, but tomorrow is going to be sunny here.
Oh well, be well!
YER BACK!!!!! YAY!!!!
I definitely vote for the riding mower! The yard is SO beautiful! I agree, why go on vacation when it’s so beautiful there! Also, that’s yard looks HUGE to me, but I grew up in track housing, so houses were no more than 20 feet apart.
Like someone said, drink a LOT of water and go slow!
