I planted flowers today!
What a great feeling. Hyacinths for the soul. Well, they weren’t hyacinths, but you get the idea.
I talked Bernie into going with me to the nursery where I used to work about 20 years ago. I haven’t been there in a few years since I haven’t been doing much gardening. When I worked there, the people who own it were like family to me, at a time when I wasn’t getting along too well with my real family. I will never forget them. Since this is Mother’s Day weekend, and a very busy time for plants and flowers, there wasn’t much time to say hi, but it feels like a homecoming when I go there. And they have really good plants and the best selection around.
I told Bernie when we searching for peppers in the back greenhouse how I never appreciated it when I worked there, but it really was the best time in my employment history. Despite the fact that the pay was low, the hours were long, and the work was hard and dirty, it still made my soul very happy. It always seemed like such a cliche to me, but youth and happiness are definitely wasted on the young!

Anyway, we got the veggies for the garden (our main reason for being there) and some flowers for one of my two flower beds. I found out after we came home and I planted them that I still need a few more, but that’s okay, I still need to get flowers for the other bed and my patio containers.
We also got two climbing rose bushes for this bed:

The wooden supports on the wall will be holding white lattice trellises for the roses to climb on. I will have to move 4 of the 5 existing roses (all but the one on the far left) just a little to make room, but I don’t think that the 3 in the middle will survive anyway. The bad weather we had this winter was pretty hard on them. The roses I got are a Hybrid Tea called climbing America, a very fragrant salmon pink color rose. I used to have one of those bushes, and actually won first prize at a flower show with the blossoms.
I will be sure to post photos when I get more work done on this flowerbed, and the other one too.
We also took the lawnmower to the shop, but when we found out they wanted $30 just to tell us if it could be fixed, and that it probably couldn’t by the sound of things, we decided to say no thanks and bring it back home. It is 3 years old and was an inexpensive mower to begin with. I think it just went past its expiration date.
Looks like Dave will be mowing for us again until we can get a new mower. And soon from the looks of things. The rainy weather we have been having sure is making the grass grow!

This morning I surfed across a site worth visiting. Here’s the link:
It deals with the media, advertising images and self-image. Very good stuff.
That’s about it for me. I am going to say ‘bye for now.
Have a nice weekend!
I will be planting veggies (if its not raining)

BTW: if you haven’t noticed, I got most of my site back to the way it was. Some changes with text colors and a couple of links to put back on, but I am through with the hardest parts of it.
Still wondering if I should put the news module back. Does anyone read those things, anyway?

My mother just got a bunch of new roses for her garden. For the life of me, I can’t remember what they’re called. They resemble a Joseph’s Coat rose in that as they grow and bloom they change from orange to an orangey yellow. It starts with a “w”. Grr. I hate it when that happens.
As for the news modules, I find your page loads faster without it. I have a P4 processor and lots and lots of RAM, so I can only imagine what it must be like for people with something slower.
Hope all grows well!
No one reads the news things. Ever.
Sail on… sail on!!!
Sounds like you had a great day! That’s cool!
I surf people’s modules to see what their interests are. A lot of times I find great links to things!
Gardening is not my thing… But I can appreciate it when someone else has created a well-balanced garden…
The news-things… There were very nice things in it, but it costs SO much time to surf all… And since I can’t choose, I skipped…
And yes, site loads faster now!…
I have been itching to get outside and do some gardening but just haven’t had the time. Maybe now that my mom is moved I can get out there and work on some stuff. First order of business is mowing the lawn though–it looks horrible right now. I will be without a car for the next 3 days (getting the bumper repaired) so I will be forced to be at home and get some things done–LOL.
