They said today would be the best weather of the Holiday Weekend.
And its still raining.
Oh well.

Yesterday we took the new truck and the dogs out for a nice long ride. 175 miles round trip, actually. We went to see my brother out at the antique market where he sells stuff on weekends, in Adamstown, PA.
This was a big weekend for the market, because in addition to the regular weekend market, they are also having a major event. It is the Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Festival, the one that used to be held in Kutztown, PA. for nearly 50 years. Lots of people had lots of money and time invested in this event. It runs Friday through Monday of this week and then Friday through Sunday next week. We feel so bad for the people there, because the weather completely washed the event out so far.
When we drove in yesterday in the early afternoon the parking lot was nearly empty. Just about 2 rows of cars. The management had reserved two nearby fields for overflow parking, and they were expecting attendance in the thousands. Most of the flea market dealers had closed up early and gone home. It looked like an abandoned tent city.

where is everybody?
My brother has 4 spaces there all season, and has built in some really nice stuff. His spaces are housed in one large and two small tents where he has some permanent display stuff built in, electric lighting and lots of other amenities. My sister in law runs the small space where they sell price guides and other books on antiques and collectibles, and he runs the big space, made up of the other 3 spaces which are all connected. Sometimes he shares the big space with one or two of his friends and their merchandise. He sells a variety of antiques and collectibles in this space. This weekend he also had hobby and leisure time books in it, too, and he will be filling it with the furniture he moved from my house as soon as he gets a chance to move things around and do some cleaning and repairs on the furniture.
He keeps his shops open no matter what, and they even keep a small travel trailer parked behind the book space where they spend the nights. They have a big covered cage built in next to it, and their two cats come out and spend the weekends with them, too. They sleep all day in boxes in their cage and only venture out after the shoppers have gone home, but they enjoy being there rather than left home alone. They really didn’t want to visit with my dogs any more than they wanted to visit with the shoppers, though…
The dogs really enjoyed their trip. The new truck is great, their crates fit nicely in the back seat, just behind us (it’s a club cab) and we can even strap them in with the seatbelts so that the crates don’t slide around at all. They like to ride in the car. After the initial excitement, they settle right down and go to sleep. They really enjoy walking around the market, getting attention from people, and smelling all the different smells. pearl was even more friendly and less ‘barky” than usual. This was their first time out since the fall, because of the bad winter we had and the fact that I haven’t had my vehicle most of the time, either. Today they are both completely worn out. It is nice and quiet here. So I will just let sleeping dogs lie and enjoy the peace!

Bernie is also pretty tired today. The cold, rainy weather really knocks you out. I think we humans have solar batteries. So it has been a really low key Sunday. We watched a movie on cable that I was hoping he could catch with me sometime. I saw it late one night and was really enchanted by it. I will post the link down at the end of this entry.
I am half way through my course of medication with the pred. I am feeling much more normal, the side effects are barely noticeable, except the appetite. I got some good sleep last night, and today I am not feeling much more than just a little bit edgy. As long as I keep eating, that is.

The really good thing is that every day my nasal passages and sinuses feel clearer. Today I am even having a little bit of a runny nose, which means that the sinuses are now open enough to drain. And my sense of smell is returning pretty well now. I am able to smell some more subtle fragrances, not just the intense ones. I can’t resist sticking my nose in absolutely everything! Trying to make up for lost time and all of those wonderful and not so wonderful aromas I haven’t been able to experience.
One of the main reasons I am enduring this treatment is so that when I get my CAT scan they will be able to really get a good image of what is going on in my sinuses. Then I will be able to take it to the specialist and see just what I am in for. Hopefully I will be able to postpone surgery, if it is necessary, until after the summer. I hate to lose the best time of the year to recovery. I don’t do very well with anesthesia. It makes me weak for months following the procedure.

I haven’t gotten much done around the house like I had anticipated. Not this time, probably because Bernie is home from work and I just don’t do as much housework when he is home. Hard running the vacuum around him and stuff, and he just messes up what I clean anyway. No big deal, the housework will wait for me, I am sure.
I would like to get out and take advantage of some of the Memorial Day sales. Home Depot is having a sale on the paint I need for my bedroom, I at least want to go there, even if I don’t go anywhere else. We still have two pieces of furniture to move from my bedroom into Bernie’s bedroom, and I have a bunch of other stuff in there that I have to haul out to the living room temporarily before I start on painting the ceiling. Maybe we will get to moving stuff today. Or tomorrow.
Funny thing is, I just don’t really care either way. I guess I am feeling as lazy as the weather.
Well, recharging is good, too.
I guess that’s all for now. I hope your weekend is going well, Dear Reader, whatever you are doing.

Maybe a silly question, but what is memorial day for? In memory of what?…
Fleamarkets are good! (and I now realize that I missed a big bookmarket in town yesterday
… Ah well)
Hey, can you talk to the doc about taking the pred every other day? That’s what they did with me last month, when I had to take it for a month. I only gained 2 pounds (which came right off when I stopped the meds) and I only had the hunger pangs on days I took the pred. Just a thought. The doc told me that’s how you avoid the side effects, every other day for a longer period of time. But I empathisize just the same. Even every other day, the side effects drive you nuts.
When I was on a reducing course of prednisilone, I ended up taking 5mg on alternate days. I’m sure you’ll feel better once you’re off it, but it sounds like it’s helping which is good. By the way, I love this new background.
That really sucks about the rain!! It has rained here all weekend as well, except today when the sun finally came out! But tonight it’s back to raining again. Ugghh.
