    The Bedroom Project: update

The messiest part of the job is done. I worked steadily for 6 hours today ragging the glaze on the walls. Its raining, cold and humid, so it is drying very slowly, but I couldn’t resist taking a picture.

I still need to paint the baseboard dark blue, and I think I will be putting some silver metallic highlights on the walls (I will decide tomorrow after it is dry and the sun comes out) The top edge by the ceiling was very difficult to do with the rag, so I need to get up there after the walls dry and touch it up a bit  with a small foam brush. I also need to touch up the ceiling a little with white here and there to cover a few “goofs” where I got some of the blue print on it.

Once all the paint is finished, I have to remove the tape on the woodwork and give the wood trim a good cleaning with Murphy’s Oil Soap. I have a lot of paint spatters to remove from the wood, too. And then I have to do the same on the hardwood floor. Then it will be time to put up the curtain rods and shades and start bringing in the furniture.

I still need to get the curtains to go on the rods, and as I explained yesterday, I have a lot of work to do on the various furnishings for the room, but the hardest, messiest, dirtiest work is behind me now. Sure feels good.

And I think I like this color. It is very rich. The texture and dimensionality gives it a wallpaper-like finish. And I think I should definitely get extra credit points for creative use of my old undies. That is what I used to put the paint on — a pair of old cotton knit undies with the elastic cut off! It worked good, a really good texture for the effect I was after.

So here are the pictures, in order, of the same view of this room, step by step up to this point:

    pretty amazing transformation, huh?

Now I can’t wait for morning, so I can paint that baseboard!

  • It’s GORGEOUS! What a transformation! Looks like a professional job indeed….you should be very proud. Isn’t it a great feeling to accomplish something so awesome all by yourself? I think that room will definately give you a feeling of peace and tranquility. It looks so calming….almost like a peaceful pure water outlet. I’d imagine being out in the middle of the lake with nothing but the sounds of nature…..ahhhh, makes me wanna take a nap! Can’t wait to see it when it’s all completed.

  • Ohhhhh, too AWESOME!!  I wish I knew how to do all that fancy shmancy painting….I’m going to be beginning renovations on my house this summer and if I ever get my camera back, I’ll be sharing before and after pics too.  I love before and after pics!  LOL

  • I really like the color!  The bluish/purple look.  It’s amazing how color and texture can transform a place.  Good job!

  • Looks very good!…

And somehow – and I know that is due to the “automatic lighting” of your camera – the green outside is also reacting more with the blue of the room…

I think it would work the same with the real eye – the focus doesn’t have to switch as much between blue-green as with white-green!…

    Cudo’s for you!…

  • It looks great!!!

  • I was trying to remember what that purple-blue is called…royal blue?  That seems right.  When I was a kid, my mom bought me a royal blue, velvet bedspread…made me feel rich!  She hung lavender curtains, then painted the white walls with a feather duster!  Purple over the white.  I loved it!  Have yet to own my own home, but can’t wait to make one mine, the way you are doing.  It looks terrific!  Won’t you love to finally relax and enjoy the finished product!

    Peace!  GFW
