    I am so excited!

Today, Bernie and I went shopping…

On Tuesday my brand new bed will be delivered

It is a Queen sized mattress made by Kingsdown and engineered for proper spinal support, but with a special “Low Pressure sleep surface”. It is very cozy and snuggly, rather than hard like some extra firm mattresses. It has a cushy thick pillow top, and was one of the most comfy ones I tried in the 3 stores we visited. I was even comfortable lying on my stomach on this one, not something I have been able to do comfortably for a long time! **click this to see the mattress I am getting (this link is not the store it is coming from but it has a picture of my new bed)**

    and soon I should be

    like a brand new baby…

We got a real deal on this mattress set, less than half of its list price ($1,200), because we bought the display model from the showroom. They change display models every few months so they stay clean and new looking. I don’t mind the fact that a bunch of people have been sitting or laying down on it in the showroom, it looks brand new except a small smudge on the label. I am getting a thick Teflon treated mattress pad (made by the Bedsack people) to go on it to keep it clean and lessen the wear. I like that. Teflon coated. That ought to make me feel less panicked when I wake up to the sounds of a cat or dog puking on the bed next to me…always a pleasant wake-up call…

The mattress is coming with a frame, but we really couldn’t afford to buy a bed (headboard and footboard) right now. Not if I want the new floors and kitchen appliances. Too much to fit in the budget right now. I was hoping for a metal bed, either iron or brass, but instead I ended up going to Home Depot and getting a sheet of MDF and some molding and a couple of carved wood decorative doo-dads. $65 total, and there will be materials left over for future projects. Tomorrow I will be building a headboard.

Update on the rest of the Bedroom Project:

The chest I was going to use under the window as a window seat will be turned around the other direction and go at the foot of the bed. And now I think I may alter my plan to include a 15″ wide padded top bench/step along both sides of the bed, to completely surround the bed with storage and dog space. I have enough fabric to cover all three.

We moved all the furniture into the bedroom, I decided at this point just to put it all in and pull pieces out one at a time to refinish and reupholster. I have too many other projects screaming at me right now to spend too much time on this, and I really want to stop camping out in the living room and move into the bedroom. The other day I got a gorgeous piece of fabric in a soft floral for the chair and vanity seat (and some pillows, and who knows what else) and some dark blue sheer for window scarves.

I am not going to do the complete window treatment I had envisioned right now, just scarves for the summer (for maximum air flow through the windows) and then in the fall I may add more layers. Had a bit of a problem with the curtain rods, have to exchange two for longer ones, but there were no more longer ones in the store. Something else to figure out as I go along. I have shades on the windows so they aren’t completely bare. The longer curtain rod is also presenting a challenge as we accidentally pulled out one of the anchors in the plaster wall when we tried to put it up. Gotta figure that one out too.

But the bottom line is that I should be at least somewhat moved in to my new bedroom by the end of the week! Then it will be time to finish up on Bernie’s bedroom and get back to work on The Garage Project. Maybe if we are lucky we will be able to go to camp this weekend, but I am not counting on sunny days until I see major changes in the forecast.

Anyway, I guess I know what I will be doing for at least the next couple of days. Hope everyone had a good weekend doing whatever…

Last night’s cable movie choice: Bobbie’s Girl, with Bernadette Peters and Rachel Ward. (see link below) I enjoyed it thoroughly, great acting, amazing chemistry between the actors, and a really touching story.
