    Phew!

What a productive weekend. Yesterday Bernie mowed the lawn (so I don’t have to do it) and I washed the Jimmy and the Ram. Didn’t get the VW done, but that’s okay, it isn’t going anywhere (yet) I pulled some weeds and puttered around the gardens a bit, too. Then we went to Lowe’s to order faux wood blinds for two of my living room windows, and get gas for the grill and some little hardware items for ongoing projects.

After dinner we watched Blue Crush on cable, and then I stayed up very late watching TV and puttering around the kitchen and living room, and on the computer.

Today, I slept till noon. I often do that, especially when its hot, stay up most of the night then sleep late, or get up early, work a while and nap mid day. I have no normal schedule, and since I am self employed, I can indulge my capricious natural rhythms. Sleep disorders are such fun not!

Bernie finished up the lawn today, and I went back out in the yard with the hose and a scouring pad to scrub the rust and grime off the remaining kitchen snackbar stool frame. Its now polished and reassembled. I just have to stain and finish the steps and they will be done. So I have a jump on the week. I hoped to finish the snackbar stool and the kitchen chairs this week, now I just have to do the chairs.

We now have another unscheduled project in the kitchen. Yesterday the old overhead light fixture, one of those round flourescent ones, flickered, starting making funny noises and sparking when I tried to turn it on. That didn’t look good. So we took it down today, to discover the wires were all charred and melted on one side. Hmm, looks like we had a near disaster there. So now I get to go pick out a new light, and we have to get the electrician back again, because I want him to check out the wires and put it up for us, just in case something is wrong that we can’t tell in the wiring.

I have to get the plumber back to finish installing the dishwasher, too. I am really anxious to start using it. It is sitting in the garage, taunting me, as my dishes keep piling up in the sink, and I keep slaving away…

My biggest accomplishment today was reclaiming my garage workspace. It had gotten all piled up with stuff, and I spent several hours cleaning up, putting things away, sorting things out, and voila! I have a worktable and a workbench again  I still have to finish The Garage Project, painting and fixing up the garage itself, but the main thing I wanted to do was to be able to get back to work on projects out in the garage. Mission accomplished.

The first project I tackled in my reclaimed workspace was finishing up the headboard for my bed. We just finished putting it on a little while ago, and it looks great. It was so heavy. My advice to anyone who wants to make their own headboard — use something lighter than 3/4 inch MDF!!! It sure is good to get that big thing out of the way and onto the bed where it belongs. Tomorrow I may put up the lamps and shelf over the bed, and that side of the bedroom will be finished. I promise pictures when it is done, of course

I also worked on the big dog gate in the garage. I got the end with the latch finished, so it will be easier to go in and out. I still have to cut a plank to attach the other end, but right now it is temporarily propped up with a bench. So this week, my dogs will be able to hang out in the garage with me again when I pack books for mailing.

I am glad we didn’t go to camp this weekend. I really enjoy getting away, but sometimes it is good to stay home and get things done. It was very hot, and I know I would have mostly been staying in the trailer soaking up the airconditioning, and complaining about the heat and bugs, anyway. There are still quite a few good weekends left in the season, the trailer will be there waiting for us when we go.

Now I am going to go find a nice cold drink and see what is on the TV. I have that satisfied, tired, sorta achy feeling after a job (or jobs) well done. Time to sit back and relax, and get ready for another busy day tomorrow.

And lamp shopping. I haven’t even considered new lighting for the kitchen. I usually have some idea of what I want, but this is going to be a really interesting shopping trip. I have absolutely no idea. Kitchen lighting is something I just haven’t paid any attention to.

Any suggestions? Its a very low ceiling, 1950′s house, with a retro/traditional/sorta-country looking kitchen.
